How to Turn a Live Photo into a Video on iPhone

Export the motion already captured in an iPhone Live Photo, then decide whether you need a normal video file or a newly generated AI animation.

To turn an iPhone Live Photo into a video, use the Photos app’s Save as Video action. This exports the recorded motion. You do not need an AI generator to invent new frames just to save that recording. Apple’s current instructions.

Export the recorded Live Photo

Find the Live Photo in Photos, open its additional actions and choose Save as Video. Locate the saved video and play it before sharing. Apple’s instructions describe where the resulting video is stored and explain that the original Live Photo remains available.

If you do not see the option, confirm that you selected a Live Photo rather than a still image, then consult the instructions for your current iPhone software. Menu layout can change.

Share the resulting video file

Share the exported video, rather than sending only the still-image component. Check that the receiving device or app can play the file. Renaming a still image does not turn it into recorded video.

If you want to combine several exports, use a video editor. Apple’s guide points to iMovie for combining the exported clips. Add captions or music in your editor and review the final file.

When AI photo animation is useful

AI animation is a different choice: it creates new motion based on a still image and a prompt. It does not recover the original moment if that recorded motion is missing.

Use Photo to Video when you deliberately want a new moving interpretation of a portrait, product or scene. Describe one action or camera movement, inspect the settings and credit quote, and compare the output with the original image. Generating needs an account; the pricing page explains starter-credit eligibility.

For a real generated example with recorded settings, see the AI video guide. That example illustrates generated motion rather than a native Live Photo export.

FAQ

Do I need an AI tool to export a Live Photo?

No. Use the native export when you want the motion the camera already captured.

Can AI recreate the exact original motion from a still image?

An AI animation is a new generated result. It should not be presented as a recovered recording of the event.

Can I make a longer edit?

Combine exported clips in an editor, or create additional generated shots when a new interpretation is appropriate. Review the finished sequence before sharing.

Use native export for a recording and AI animation for deliberately generated motion. Choosing that first keeps the process simpler and the result accurately described.
